Between 200 and 250 people marched in Tulle on Sunday morning, according to La Montagne, against the bill creating a presumption of self-defence for police officers and gendarmes. The text, passed by the National Assembly and due before the Senate in October, is seen by opponents as a "licence to kill" handed to the police. One protester cited 861 people killed by police in France between 1977 and 2022, and claimed shootings after drivers failed to stop have risen fivefold since the so-called Cazeneuve law. Demonstrators are calling for more resources for the justice system rather than for law enforcement.
